One of my bleakest days 28/10/10 (part 2)

I remember the date, time and location vividly - 28 October 2010, 1300hrs, NUS Sports Drive 1. I had committed a grave mistake that I should have avoided after all.
But as for now, I'm lost for words. :( This horrible memory shall be etched in my mind forever.

One of my bleakest days 28/10/10 (part 1)

Phew, it has been quite a while since I have written my last post. Well, I have been busy with some 'stuff'.

I prefer to forget this horrible day- 28/10/10, but decide to write it anyway so that I can read it while I'm emoing =.=. That day was a huge moment for me, as I had to give two successive school presentations in my university, something that I never accomplished before.

First off was a presentation that I had put my utmost effort in. CS1010E is a computing module and I was given the task of explaining one of the tutorial questions in powerpoint slides. I appeared to be very confident as I had rehearsed my lines rather thoroughly, but in fact, my hands were involuntary shaking with nervousness. Like I have said, I had never presented for a long time and it was heart above matter at that time, which got me so nervous. My reluctance to present started to show when I could not display the slides from my laptop onto the big screen. I started to panic a bit, but the tutor was kind to help out. After 5 mins, I started my presentation. My tutor had to stop me halfway as he thought that I was not clear and concise enough in my explanation. After presenting, I was slightly discouraged as I felt that I did not perform up to my expectations.

After which, I had to routinely rush off to the next tutorial venue. It was crucial as I had to give my second presentation. I was late but my presentation was around 5 minutes later. I was not sure how to answer the tutorial question. Ironically, the answers were given out via the ivle website prior to that day. Like a rebellious 10-year old schoolkid, I presented what I thought was the correct answer (which was totally different from the answer provided). I was already in a bad mood and wanted to end this chaos as soon as possible. Perhaps my mind wasn't thinking straight.

After the tutorials finished, I still needed to attend a lab practice. I drove my car around NUS so as to relieve my frustration, but to minimal effect. After that, at around 1pm, I entered a carpark to find a parking space. It was then when I realised that my nightmare became a reality.

Reflections of the WWE (World Wrestling Entertainment)

I have become a huge fan of the WWE recently. Or rather, should I say it more accurately.. my passion for the WWE has been reignited. Most of my friends may not realise this.. but I used to watch WWF way back in my Primary school. It used to feature Masked Kane, The Undertaker, Big Show, and best of all, THE ROCK. When I first saw him, I started idolising him- cause he had the charisma, poise and swagger that I found very attractive. He was the reason why I watched WWF in the first place. Consequently after THE ROCK quit the WWE, I no longer followed up on the show. I also had to concentrate my studies in sec school as I was a bit of 'a study freak' at that time.

However, as fate would have decided, an event made my eyes open wide- exposing me to the WWE. A few months back, Starhub had decided to broadcast a free sports channel called Supersports Plus, and one of its shows was the ever popular WWE Superstars. I was bored at home and I thought: why not(watch WWE)? I tuned to Supersports plus and was immediately engrossed. I then thought to myself again: It's not just the ROCK who I liked, in fact, it was the wrestling action that I really fell in love with.

As the days went by, I started gaining access of RAW and Smackdown through Youtube. I found the shows to be more spectacular than Superstars and thus committed myself to watching them as well.

A few things that I liked about WWE during these few months.. first of all I like Kane's evil laugh and vengence. I also like new-boy Alberto Del Rio's submission which is an absolute killer. I also quite like the idea of the Nexus, as it makes the storyline a bit more interesting. Last of all, Laycool is super cool.

There is this debate currently as to who the RAW mystery GM is.. I am so hoping that it is the ROCK, as I wish that WWE can roll back the years and bring back one of the greatest WWE stars in history.

Pulau Ubin Part 4 -This is overshot!!! lol.

My friend and I were cycling continuously for 20 minutes long and still no sign of the obstacle course. We had seen the map earlier and had agreed to try out the obstacle course in order to challenge ourselves. I did not take note of the scale of the map and thus did not realise that the course was several miles further than I expected.

After exactly half an hour, my friend and I stumbled upon a rocky path ahead of us. We figured out that that was the start of the obstacle course and rode towards there without hesitation as we did not cycle all the way there for nothing. A short while later, we came across the map of the obstacle course. We realised that we were in the blue zone, which is supposingly the least treacherous in the whole course. My good buddy and I decided to take a detour on the left. For a moment I thought that I was in the black zone, the most dangerous of all, as I struggled a bit to ride through the grass patches, and up/down slopes. To my horror, I discovered that guess what.. I was in the blue zone.. My reaction? =.=" and T.T...

My friend was not bothered and decided to test himself to his limits, or rather, over my limits. I was already panting at that time and someone else would think that I am absolutely hopeless. But not my friend. Through his encouragement, we braved through the pebbles, grass and steep slopes to arrive at the notorious..BLACK zone. The first obstacle we witnessed was the overshot. Basically, there is a huge rock and in front of the rock, is a hug. e plunge down a few metres to the ground. To us it was impossible to complete as it is only fit for a stuntman. I made a very short video intro about it.

To my horror(again), i realised that i had lost my last packet of eyedrop. I was frantically searching for it in my pockets, but to no avail. I knew at that moment that I had to go back home asap, moreover I felt some dryness in my eyes. Consequently, my friend and I decided to head back to the jetty. What was only 30 minutes of journey seemed like an eternity, as I mustered all of my remaining energy to pedal back to the bicycle shop.

After returning the rented bicycles, I was thoroughly exhausted and bought a bottle of water to hydrate myself. We did not have to wait long(or at all) for the ferry. My friend and I then took bus to the mrt station and we bid adios. In light of the events, I thought of my mother's advice. Maybe I should have waited until my eyes have fully recovered, before organising the trip. However, if it was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, it was worth it. I smiled to myself before ringing the doorbell outside my home.

Pulau Ubin Part 3 - zzz... My bicycle chain got detached!!

Well it was 3pm and I got the feeling that we were just getting started, and that my friend would not call it quits. I accessed my situation and permitted myself to spend a few more hours in the island. Anyway my friend, being the more enthusiastic one, led the way with his bicycle.

However, a few hundred metres from our starting point, the unthinkable just happened. I was furiously peddling my bicycle when we were going upslope. Out of the blue, my bicycle chaine just became loose. I could pedal no further and again, my friend had to stop for me. My friend must have been thinking: OMG! as we resolved to head all the way back to the bicycle shop, with me pushing the bicycle. When we reached the shop, the owner said no problem and lent me a replacement. I thanked him and my friend and I set off to a perilous journey. How perilous and treacherous the journey is later I will tell you. Anyway, we wasted a good half an hour because of that annoying bicycle chain!!!

Pulau Ubin part 2 - Only trainees allowed :((

I could immediately sense that my friend was much more enthusiastic than me, although I suggested the Pulau Ubin trip. He had not ridden a bicycle for 6 months. More importantly, he said that he wanted to see something very, very mysterious (will be revealed later on). We passed by bicycle shop after shop until we realised that someone was renting out bicycles for only 5 dollars every 3 hours. Without the slightest hesitation, my buddy and I decided to rent the low-quality bikes and off we went.

We were riding happily for around 15 minutes, when I experienced a bit of difficulty. Dust had apparantly entered my vulnerable eyes and I waved to my friend urgently, telling him to stop. I had never expected the area to be so dusty because like I said, I had not been to Pulau Ubin for a very long time. However, that did not deter me as I just applied eyedrop to minimise the pain.

My friend was desperate to find the map of the area, determined to arrive at the mysterious place. After successfully searching for the map, we realised that we had to ride up an extremely steep slope in order to get to our destination. I mustered all my energy and was panting already before finally conquering the slope.

After 30 long minutes, I began to realise that the mysterious landmark my friend was referring to was in fact an adventure camp. From a distance I could see a lot of challenging obstacles, the ones that I used to attempt during my adventure camp days in sec school; such as abseiling and flying fox. My friend and I were grinning in excitement as we proceeded up the slope to get a better view of the place. Unfortunately, a wel-built man stopped us in our tracks. He explained that only trainees are allowed within the premises. Considering that my buddy and I had seen a couple went up without being halted, we felt very sway...:(.

Anyway, we cycled down and rode all the way to the eatery to take our well-deserved break...

Pulau Ubin Part 1- Nasi Lemak tasty but probably not the best..

It was a beautiful Wednesday morning last week, 14 of July. I was still doubtful whether to go to Pulau Ubin to cycle. My mother had earlier discouraged me from going to Ubin as she was worried that I may hurt my eyes, which i had operated on nearly a month ago. After some consideration, I decided to go against her and planned a cycling trip with my good buddy. Although I have been there b4, I had absolutely no idea what I was going to expect...

We met at Tampines MRT station at around 11am, then boarded bus 29 to Changi Village. I recommended the very famous Nasi Lemak stall to my friend. The queue was so long that one cannot count the number of people using his fingers and even his toes. After 15 minutes, my friend and I started munching away. I thought that I had impressed my friend with my recommendation. However, he calmly said that it was 'not the best that he had tasted'.

After makan, we proceeded to the ferry terminal. I feared that we would have to wait for a long time as the ferry could only take off with 12 passengers inside. However, we did not have to do so, as many adventure seekers were already waiting to sit in the ferry. The ferry took around 15 mins to arrive at Pulau Ubin. My friend and I walked towards the island with much anticipation, as the REAL fun and adventure awaits...

A feeling that was even better than scoring a last-second goal in the World Cup

It was a typical Tuesday when I met up with my '志同道合' buddy at Somerset MRT station. He was in Chinatown then and felt the urge to go out with me. We started off at 313 Somerset. WE decided to explore the shopping centre and found some nice eateries there, including the stall selling chicked cutlet. However, we went to Long John Silvers to eat lunch.

We were walking and talking on our way to Plaza Singapura, our next destination. I yawned, thinking that it was probably just another ordinary day. I hoped for something special to happen. Thankfully, my prayers were answered. My friend and I were in the Star Factory arcade, playing the Spot the Difference game. After a few inpressive rounds, my friend and I were about to lose the game when we were stuggling to find the last difference; when out of the blue, my friend clicked at the centre of the screen, feeling frustrated. To our absolute surprise, the area he clicked on was the missing difference. Still not convinced that it was a surprise huh.. I forgot to mention that.. At that instanteneous moment, the timer read 0 seconds!!!! That meant that, after 0.0000......1 (to the power of 99999...9) seconds --> (very very fast, in other words) , we would have lost the game. As a result, we had 0 points awarded, but managed to progress to the next stage.

Lastly, we went to Secret Recipe retaurant to satisfy our craving for cheese cake and milkshake. We played the Unblock Me game on my iphone and I got to say, my friend is very pro at playing the game. I was surprised how he grasped the winning strategies of the game so quickly. Time passed by like a speeding bullet and it was 5pm already. My friend and I then bid syonarra and I walked home feeling satisfied.

Old and not so dangerous already.. (movie outing part 3)

My friend and I were relieved that we were in the cinema just on time :).. The Hong Kong movie (Once a Gangster) commenced and my friend was smiling with excitement. He told me that there was a series of "Young and Dangerous" movies and he was a huge fan of all those. He recognised the person holding the chicken head and another person with the knife carved "人定胜天".

Ok, o the movie started off with a decent plot. A guy nicknamed '小鸡' first joined a gangster group when he was a teenager. He loved to cook chicken. As a result, many years went by and he had sufficient money to own a restaurant selling his finest chicken dishes. One fine, fine day, the leader of the gangsters wanted '小鸡' to be his successor. However, there was one huge problem. Another guy nicknamed '小刀' had just been released from prison and was supposed to be the successor instead. His mother was unhappy and went to confront the leader of the gangsters.

Thus after some bickering, both parties decided to resolve the matter by completing a mission to find an antique table leg. The leader had the leg but was super sway when he was conned by the other party's men. He was being stabbed and killed in such ridiculous fashion that my friend and I started to doubt what we perceived as 'a fantastic and epic sequel' to the earlier Yound and Dangerous movies.

There was another scene when it was ASSUMED that '小鸡' was being slaughtered by '小刀' into tiny bits. The actual scene could not be seen as it took place within a taxi and the camera was showing the outside. I gasped, thinking that the protagonist was dead and the movie was well over. However, there was a clever twist to the story. In fact, '小鸡' and '小刀' were buddies and known each other before '小刀' went to jail. The blood seen at the taxi windows was in fact, tomato juice. My friend was smiling in disbelief and I was enjoying the twist but in fact, we found the scene very, very lame and well.. ridiculous.

After the movie, my friend was shaking his head profusely. We may have enjoyed the twist/ surprise element in the movie, nevertheless, we were disappointed as the movie did not turn out as we had expected. But, at least we had a few laughs :)

My psychic buddy (movie outing part 2)

After going to Shaw House and Cineleisure without much luck, my friend and I resolved to go to Tiong Bahru Plaza to watch the 7.30pm movie (once a gangster). When we arrived at the shopping centre, I could tell that my friend was rather disappointed with the lack of amenities there, however, I reassured him that that the cinema theatre was wonderful. We couldn't do much there so we walked around in circles several times.

We then went to Long John Silver's restaurant to have our dinner. To make our outing more interesting, my friend decided to display his psychic prowess. He read my mind like a book and declared that I had a troubled past. I wanted to keep it confidential at first, but as I had nothing to lose, I explained to him about my horrendous experience during my Junior College days. Like a doting old(i meant wise :)) father, he advised me to forgive and forget, rather than to continue having this unneccessary ressentment in my mind. I felt reassured after that and thanked him from the bottom of my heart.

After a lengthy conversation, I checked my watch and realised that it was already around 7.15pm. We rushed to the cinema, without a clue of what to expect..

There was one night...(movie outing part 1)

Last Monday, my friend and I decided to go out to Plaza Singapura. We agreed to meet at 2.30pm, however I was slightly late cause of my eye appointment that started in the morning. My friend and I were starving so we decided to go to Burger King to have our lunch first.

Afterwards, we proceeded to the cinema on the top floor. My friend saw this cool banner of "Once a gangster(,always a gangster)" and got really excited. He told me how brilliant the movie "Young and Dangerous" was and hoped that the Once a Gangster movie will be just as nice. I agreed without hesitation. The problem was that afterwards, we realised that the next movie screening in PS was at around 9pm, which is far too long for us to wait. Thus, we thought of going elsewhere to watch instead.

We decided to go to Cathay cineplex to check out the movie timings. While we were trudging in the crowded streets in Orchard Road, my friend started humming our favourite army tune "There was one night..." I smiled but could not sing along as I forgot the lyrics. My friend soon taught me a few verses and then we sang the "One night" song in perfect melody, amidst the stares of curious people :)

This was the song that we sang:

There was one night..
There was no light..
There was no lightt..
So we used torchlight(lol)..
Under the clear moonlight..
I looked into her eyes..
And asked.. asked her to be my Valentine..

The Last Song..

On Wednesday, I was playing my computer when my brother messaged me from his school. He said that he wanted to watch The Last Song after his school. I thought, why not, since I have read halfway through the book by Nicholas Sparks and found it rather interesting. We went to AMK hub and thankfully, we managed to book the best seats.

Anyway, the movie started later and already my mind was full of thoughts. I wanted to be just a bit critical and in my mind compared the movie scenes with the book. I did not want to tell my brother what would happen next as I wanted to 'keep the suspense'. 10 minutes into the movie, and I was wondering: where was the t-shirt with Nemo printed on it? 20 minutes later, I thought: Wasn't there supposed to be a fight at the fast food restaurant?

After that there was this very funny part in the movie. The daddy wanted to smile but his smile looked very awkward. Everyone laughed so hard that I thought, what the heck, just enjoy the movie. The last 30 minutes was the climax. I have not read that part yet in the book. It was very emotional.

Being pawned by a pair of shaky hands (Licence2Play Part 2)

Just when my friend and I were trudging away at around 4pm, we spotted a registration booth. We were inquisitive and thus wanted to try it out. There are 4 mini-challenges that a registrant had to accomplish, after which he/she would win attractive prizes.

The first station wasn't even a challenge at all. All each of us had to do was to pose beside a 'Dragonica' board and ask a pretty lady to take a snapshot. My friend and I grinned.

The second station, though not challenging as well, was very significant and more or less the main highlight of our trip. We had to randomly type a four-digit code and check whether it is valid or not. Whatever the result, we were guaranteed a prize. Out of the blue, I turned towards my friend. His jaw had literally dropped such that his mouth was wide opened. I had never seen him so dumbfounded before, like a little LAMB.. :). I asked him with my favorite catchphrase, "Sup bro??". He shook his head momentarily and told me that the station-in-charge (a beautiful lady) looked alarmingly familiar...

He then elaborated that she used to work in the past IT fair, and that he witnessed her while working in the same venue. He told me to take a photo of him and her together and I agreed. While I was holding my digital camera ready to snap a photo, I kind of 'snapped' (not being focused) myself. My mind was invaded with thoughts. I was thinking how my friend was imagining, like "What a hot BABE, I want to make LOVE..hehe." As a result, my hands shook wildly and I took a blurred image instead. I was relieved that my friend was so forgiving after this unfortunate incident.

As for the other 2 stations, well, they were not.. how should I put it.. significant. After that, I whipped out my handphone and realized that it was already 5pm. After I reached home, I was thinking back of my fruitful day.. full of smiles and one deep regret.

Eye candy in Singapore expo (Licence2Play Part 1)

Last Friday was Vesak day... But more importantly, it was the starting day for the license2play event in the Singapore Expo. This carnival promised plenty of eye candy- new games, gadgets, and babes etc.

Anyway, my good buddy and I proceeded to the Expo mrt station and were utterly dumbfounded to realise that it was crowded. We had to literally barge ourselves through the crowd. After 10 long minutes (which could have been 5 minutes), we finally arrived at the games carnival. There were a decent number of new games featured, like Raycity and Requiem. Starcraft 2 was the main attraction. I was really grateful to my friend for giving the courage to play that game which I have not played before, and guiding through the stage like a diligent teacher...

Hope that the loss of wisdom teeth won't make me less wise..

It was 3pm when I was boarding the MRT to Paragon. I was not about to window-shop there, but to remove my (top 2) wisdom teeth. I did not feel nervous at all. Instead, I was full of optimism- firstly because the dentist had already removed my bottom 2 teeth, secondly, I have waited for 1 whole year for my wisdom teeth to be completely removed, since the heart-breaking news during a regular dental check-up...

Anyway, I stepped into the dental clinic and realised that I was 10 minutes late. I was supposed to reach there by 3.30pm. Phew, my slot was not taken over by someone else. Thus, I did not have to wait for long before it was my turn. I greeted Dr Ho the dentist and the first thing he did was to ask me where my x-ray film of my teeth was. We told each other that we could not find it and therefore I had to take an x-ray in their own clinic zzz...

After which, the dentist checked my wisdom teeth to examine whether it has fully grown out. Of course I would prefer that as my teeth will only be extracted using 'pliers' and not operated using a 'drill'. The latter was a much expensive method anyway and probably more risky.

So 'verdict': my wisdom teeth has ALMOST grown out. Oh shoot, I thought, as I may have to book a later appointment for the extraction. But Dr. Ho said that he could extract it by cutting a small slit on my gums near the teeth. I immediately gave him the green light and opened my mouth wide.

For those who are frightened or paranoid of such dental experiences, do not fret. The dentist will most probably apply some 'cream' onto your gums so that you do not feel much pain. The injections to the gums were the most 'painful', as 'painful' as an ant's bite that was.. Besides, it hurts less than being cut by broken glass..

The extraction finished in no time and I was delighted that I got to keep my two wisdom teeth as a whole, unlike the last time where the teeth was in bits and pieces. The total cost was yea.. (I prefer to say LESS) than $400; to me it was a huge bargain. I went back home and removed the 2 cotton rolls that minimised blood flow from the gums. I gurgled my mouth and spat out the water.. and my sink had literally became 'a red sea'. Blood was flowing from my gums non-stop and fortunately, it was only for a short while.

A pretty dark confession to make... may be taken down soon

Oh my god, I have not written for almost 2.5 years. Mind blowing. At the point when I am writing this blog entry, I believe that I am defin...
